Polyps are general defined as any overgrowth of gastrointestinal epithelium that protrudes into the lumen. They are calsified as hyperplastic or neoplastic, benign or malignant.

An adenoma is a type of polyp which is pre-malignant. They should all be removed through the endoscope.
